- Filing an IRS form (SS-4, 2553, 2848)? If your fillable PDF uploads blank, open it in your browser and use Print > Save as PDF, then upload that file. That locks your typed text into the pages.
- A cover sheet is not required unless the recipient asks for one. If you need one, make it page 1 of your PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Do you need a fax machine to send a fax?
No. You need a PDF and a web browser. FaxItOnce connects to the telephone network on our end and transmits your document to the recipient’s fax machine, so no machine, phone line, or app is required on yours.
Do I have to print, sign and scan it?
Only if the form needs a handwritten signature. Form 2848 sent by fax must be signed by hand, and Form 2553 needs signatures from all shareholders. Our page for each form says what applies, and the instructions on IRS.gov are the final word.
Can I take a photo of the pages with my phone?
Use a scanner app or the document scan built into your phone, and save the result as a Letter-size PDF. A photo saved as a PDF at camera size can exceed fax page dimensions and fail; this is the most common failure we see.
How do I know it arrived?
We email you when the carrier reports the fax as delivered, with the page count. Carrier delivery does not confirm that an agency has accepted or processed your documents.
Is my Social Security number safe with you?
Your PDF upload is protected by HTTPS. Fax transmission over the telephone network is not encrypted end to end. Verify the recipient number before sending. Do not enter personal identification information, such as a Social Security number, in the fax form fields. Read more on our fax security page.
