Can I fax a disability application?
Follow the instructions for the particular application. SSA lists online, telephone and local-office routes for applying for disability benefits. Its general document-submission guidance also allows fax in appropriate cases. Do not assume a fax to any SSA office files an application or appeal.
Which fax number and cover page should I use?
Use the number and any barcoded cover page in your SSA request. If unclear, contact the office handling your case through the official SSA office locator. Include only the case details requested. Do not substitute a general fax number for a specific case destination.

Does delivery confirmation mean my paperwork was accepted?
No. Carrier confirmation records transmission to the receiving fax system. It does not establish that the recipient reviewed, accepted or processed the paperwork. Check the final result in your dashboard and email, and follow up with the recipient when needed.
What happens if sending fails?
Temporary failures may be retried automatically up to four times. Invalid numbers or document problems may require correction. We email the final result. A failed transmission leaves your fax credit in your account; it does not automatically refund the purchase.
