How it works
- Get your number. A US fax number, active for 90 days from purchase.
- Write it on your form. For IRS Form SS-4, put it in the applicant's fax number box before you send the form.
- Send your form the way you normally would.
- The reply comes to your email. Each fax that arrives is emailed to you as a PDF.
- It ends on its own. After 90 days the number is switched off. No renewal, nothing to cancel.

Please know before you sign up. We provide the fax number and deliver what arrives on it. We do not control how fast the IRS or any office replies, and we cannot guarantee they will reply by fax. The IRS says it generally faxes an EIN back within 4 business days, and it can take longer. Apply for an EIN only once: sending the same application by fax and by mail or phone can cause problems with the IRS.
Questions
What fax number do I put on Form SS-4 if I do not have a fax machine?
You need a number that can receive faxes for as long as the IRS takes to reply. A temporary fax number works: write it in the applicant's fax number box on the SS-4 before you send it, and the IRS faxes the EIN to that number.
How long does the IRS take to fax back an EIN?
The IRS says it generally faxes the EIN within 4 business days when you include a return fax number. It can take longer. Without a fax number, the EIN comes by mail, which takes weeks.
Why not use a free temporary fax number?
Free temporary numbers usually expire within 24 hours. The IRS reply often takes several days, so the number can be gone before the EIN arrives.
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay once. The number ends after 90 days and nothing renews.
Can I send faxes from the number?
The reply number receives faxes only.
Do I need to live in the US?
No. The number is a US number and works wherever you are. Faxes arrive in your email.
Is the number new?
Numbers are either new or have been out of use for at least 90 days, so you should not receive faxes meant for someone else.
Is this for medical records from a clinic?
It can be used by patients receiving their own records. It is not for clinics, practices or insurers. We are not a HIPAA business associate and do not sign BAAs.
